NINTENDO 3DS FINALLY RELEASED IN JAPAN!!!

The new Nintendo 3DS 3D hand-held console has just been released in the land of the rising sun (Japan to you and me!), with massive queues already observed in Tokyo.

The Nintendo 3DS, costing 25,000 yen ($300) in Japan, goes on sale in Europe on March 25 for 250 euros (£230), and will arrive in the U.S. on March 27 for $250.

Does this mean the boom for this product has finally begun. How long will it last?

NEWLY RELEASED SONY ERICSSON XPERIA PLAY NO MATCH FOR PSP NGP!?

There has been much attention and fanfare surrounding the release of the new Sony Ericsson phone which can perhaps be considered as a warm-up to Sony's PSP NGP later in the year. 

According to reports, the new Sony Ericsson XPERIA PLAY phone, which is also known as the "PSP Phone", cannot be compared to the "next-gen" PSP NGP.

Clearly the XPERIA PLAY has been touted for the casual game player, which is perhaps why no comparison can be drawn with the NGP as this can be considered as a stand-alone console-media device akin to a PS3 rather than the PSP.
Therefore, it is more likely that this phone will compete with the imperious iPhone and to some extent the emerging Android powerhouses even though it will be powered by Android's Gingerbread OS.

Do Sony then have to be quite apprehensive about entering this highly competitive market?

Is the XPERIA PLAY a gimmick or is it a real contender? How will it affect the sales of the current PSP models?

JUST IN - SONY PSP TO LIVE ON AFTER NGP RELEASE!!!

You read correctly, as far as the top dogs at Sony are concerned the existing PSP will exist alongside the NGP when it is finally released.
Check out what the big cheese at Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida said: 

"The NGP features everything Sony can and wants to do today.It's a platform looking forward with great ambition. It can't replace a platform that has already been on sale for seven years now. In terms of pricing, we can't sell the NGP for the same price as a PSP. The PSP has become very affordable and popular, especially with younger generations."

He added: "I think the NGP needs time to mature and get adopted by users. So, for the time being, both platforms will coexist."

So there you have it, the PSP lives on!!!

Perhaps Sony are insuring sales of their portable consoles by allowing both to compete and support each other.

Smart or stupid move? Does the PSP deserve to continue its production run after 5 odd years? Or is the NGP a satisfactory replacement?

As the launch of the hotly anticipated 3DS draws near, Nintendo are in overdrive with the marketing of their new "money maker".

NEW "PLAY COIN" DETAILS ANNOUNCED FOR THE NINTENDO 3DS

Some new Nintendo news has been announced in connection with the 3DS play features.

Namely, the introduction of "Play Coins", a revolution in social/gaming interaction.

Play Coins are earned by walking around with your Nintendo 3DS, this promotes people taking their system out with them so StreetPass and SpotPass can be utilised more. Play Coins can be used in a variety of ways throughout the Nintendo 3DS system depending on the game or application.

According to further details 100 steps will earn you a single Play Coin and you can only earn 10 Play Coins per day, on top of that your Nintendo 3DS can only store 300 Play Coins at once, in order to stop users over abusing the reward feature.

A practical example of Play Coins is that they can be freely used by developers as they wish, in Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars you can purchase additional content with Play Coins, while Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition will allow you to gamble with them in the hope of earning a new Battle Figure.

RUMOUR!!! APPARENTLY THE PSP NGP CAN RUN WIPEOUT HD FOR PS3 AT FULL SPEED!!!!

Yes you read correctly, according to a source the PSP NGP can run the complete version of WipEout HD on PS3 with little fuss! Further details suggest that the game easily runs with full graphical shaders and runs at 60 fps, which are the same capabilities of the PS3.

This rumour further adds to the argument in recent weeks that the NGP is shaping up to be as powerful as its big brother, the PS3.

However, we won't know if this is true or not until the official release - which is slated for the end of this year.

Although this is only the first wave of titles that will be released alongside the NGP, many predict that some of these titles will not live not live up to the expectation of the fire power that the NGP can (on paper) clearly deliver.

ANNOUNCED!!! LAUNCH TITLES FOR THE NINTENDO 3DS

It was previously confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS has a launch window of March 25th 2011, however 13 titles have now been announced that will release at the same time:

Here they are:

Nintendo will be offering Nintendogs + cats and Pilotwings Resort. Nintendogs + cats brings 3D functionality to the franchise.

Pilotwings Resort lets players use their Mii characters to pilot vehicles such as planes, hang gliders and rocket belts to complete 40 missions.

Capcom will offer Street Fighter IV 3D Edition on the first day of launch, offering 35 playable characters, bonus stages and cinematic combos. Gamers can also play against friends across the globe with online multiplayer.

Konami will have Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2011 3D for the console, utilising the 3D capabilities of the console. It includes play-by-play commentary and supports wireless player between two consoles.

Electronics will be releasing The Sims 3, letting users create a unique Sim and control their lives. Players can download exclusive content through online connectivity and the game now offers quick challenges to the franchise.

LucasArts will offer Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars for the console, which will also take advantage of the console’s 3D features. Gamers can play through 10 story-based missions spanning across the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.

Namco Bandai will offer Ridge Racer 3D, bringing the familiar Ridge Racer gameplay to the console with 3D visuals.

Sega will be releasing Super Monkey Ball 3D, which will have 3 full-game modes, including classic puzzles, car fights and battles.

Temco Koei will launch Samurai Warriors: Chronicles for the device, allowing players to explore the game in 3D. 

Ubisoft will release four games on the launch date – Asphalt 3D, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3D and Rayman 3D.

Looks like a good set of launch titles!

Well then.... on paper the NGP looks as though it will massacre the Nintendo 3DS, but will the 3D technology in the 3DS be enough to fend off the advances of Sony's new juggernaut hand-held?

Here are the hardware specs currently known about the Nintendo 3DS:

The original Nintendo DS featured a pair of ARM processors running at 67 MHz and 33 MHz and a comparatively paltry 4 MB RAM. The Nintendo DSi had double the CPU clock speed and quadrupled the system's RAM, plus added 256 MB of flash-based storage.

FIGHT!!! SONY PSP AKA PSP 2 v NINTENDO 3DS

The SONY PSP Next Generation Portable or the NGP has been announced and boy is it something - think mini XBOX 360!!!

But more importantly how will it measure up against the previously announced NINTENDO 3DS.

First impressions is that it is definitely not as powerful as the NGP.
